Day, E. and Shapson, S. (1993). French immersion teacher education: A study of two programs. The Canadian Modern Language Review 49, 446-465.

This article reports on a study of French immersion teacher education programs in two institutions in Western Canada. The study, conducted during the 1989-90 school year, was designed to provide an in depth examination of the two programs, focusing on the clientele for these programs, the models on which the programs are based, participants' experiences and needs, and future educational planning. Methodologies arising from naturalistic inquiry and responsive case studies were used to examine the programs in depth. An analysis was conducted in relation to current research on teacher education. Brief descriptive summaries of each program are presented, followed by a discussion of the findings.
