Unit Overview:

This is a first grade math unit about basic geometric shapes. Students will be manipulating and identifying shapes in order to learn the names and characteristics of these basic shapes. Students will work with the shapes in a variety of situations. The culminating project of this unit is a class-developed PowerPoint presentation.

Context:

Students learn the names of the basic geometric shapes in kindergarten. In this unit they will review the shapes, as well as learn about various characteristics of shapes, such as number of sides, angles, and vertices. This information will be reinforced through patterning activities, puzzles, and technological tasks.
