Stipends and Scholarships

 

U of MN LCTL Teacher Scholarship

 

Deadline: April 1, 2016

CARLA offers current LCTL instructors at the University of Minnesota a special scholarship to attend one of the CARLA summer institutes. Teachers will be required to pay a non-refundable $25 commitment fee, but the balance of the institute cost will be paid by CARLA–a value of $325!

A limited number of scholarships will be awarded to current U of MN LCTL faculty and staff on a first-come, first-served basis until April 1, 2016. Each LCTL teacher may apply for only one scholarship and only University of Minnesota instructors may apply.

To apply for a CARLA summer institute LCTL scholarship:

  1. Fill out the U of MN the LCTL Teacher Scholarship Request Form. You will need to sign in using your U of MN user ID.
  2. CARLA will review your request. If you meet the selection criteria, CARLA will send you a registration code to activate your scholarship within 3-5 business days of submission.
  3. Register online for the institute using the special code. You will be required to pay a non-refundable $25 commitment fee at the time of registration.

 

 

Don't delay! Some of the CARLA summer institutes fill up quickly.

 

 

5th Annual CARLA/MDE Collaboration for Minnesota Teacher Professional Development

 

Deadline: April 1, 2016

 

MDE (Minnesota Department of Education) and CARLA are again collaborating to offer free attendance to five MN teachers to attend a CARLA summer institute. K-12 World language and ESL teachers who are currently teaching in Minnesota are eligible to apply.*

To apply:

 

  1. Download and fill out the Application Form (doc).
  2. Email completed application form to Ursula Lentz at MDE: ursula.lentz@state.mn.us

 

You will be notified of your application status by April 15, 2016.

 


*Please note: not all institutes are appropriate for ESL or immersion teachers. Please read the description of the institutes carefully.

 

 

Educator Stipend for African Less Commonly Taught Languages

Deadline: April 1, 2016 (Stipends will be awarded in a rolling basis starting January 15, 2016 until all funding has been used)

The African Studies Initiative at the Institute for Global Studies and CARLA are collaborating to offer $500 stipends for educators of African Languages (including Arabic and Portuguese) in order to attend a CARLA summer institute. Any K-14 educator who teaches an African language, including Arabic and Portuguese, is eligible to apply. (Note: University of MN instructors are not eligible for this stipend; they may apply for the U of MN LCTL Teacher Scholarship listed above.)

  1. Fill out the Online Application Google Form.
  2. Submit a one-page resume and a one-page letter of introduction in which you address how the stipend will aid your professional development and how the Summer Institute will aid your teaching of the African less commonly taught language.  Please email the resume and letter of introduction to Deborah Jane at outreach@umn.edu or send to

Please note: You will be required to register and pay for the institute ahead of time. The $500 stipend will be processed following the conclusion of the institute. Payment is typically received within 3-4 weeks.
