Exercise 7: More Apology Strategies

In previous exercises, we have learned some of the strategies for apologizing commonly used by Japanese speakers. Some examples are: using an appropriate level of politeness, knowing multiple functions and the most likely recipients of various apology expressions, and being aware of the appropriate number of apology expressions to use.

This exercise will review these strategies and introduce still others that are commonly used. First, as you read and listen to examples of apology expressions on the left, match them with the most suitable descriptions of strategies on the right.
