Demonstrative adjectives

You may have been confused by the fact that ‘this,’ ‘these,’ ‘that,’ and ‘those’ in Spanish look pretty similar to each other (este, esta, estos, estas, ese, esa, esos, esas). So it can often be a challenge to remember which form is correct.  For example, you accidentally use esta persona 'this person' when you are talking about someone at the other end of the room.  The person you are speaking to may think you are referring to someone else right nearby.  To avoid this confusion, you really should have said esa persona 'that person.'
