Immersion School Visits

Wednesday, October 15, 2008
8:00 am - Noon

Conference participants may choose to visit one school for an additional fee of $25, which includes transportation to the school from the conference hotel.

**Pre-registration required - register by October 10 to guarantee a spot!
Meet in the lobby of the conference hotel at 7:45 the morning of the school visits.
You will be transported by charter school bus to and from the school.

  • Yinghua Academy (Chinese K-3), a one-way foreign language immersion school serving students in grades K-3. It is a full immersion program. Initial literacy is taught in Mandarin, the immersion language. English literacy begins in the second grade. Bus is FULL.

  • Park Spanish Immersion (Spanish K-6), a one-way foreign language immersion school serving 580 students in grades K-6. It is a full immersion program. Initial literacy is taught in Spanish, the immersion language; English literacy instruction begins the second half of second grade, and expands to 40 minutes a day of English instruction in third grade. Bus is FULL.

  • Normandale French Immersion (French K-5), a one-way foreign language immersion school serving students in grades K to 5. It is a full immersion program. Initial literacy is taught in French, the immersion language; English literacy instruction begins in grade 3.

  • Emerson Spanish Immersion Learning Center (Spanish-English K-8), a dual language immersion program serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. It is a 90/10 two-way immersion program. Initial literacy is taught in Spanish, the partner language; English literacy instruction begins in 2nd grade. Bus is FULL.

  • Highland Park Junior High (Continuation Spanish & French 7-8), an extension of two one-way full foreign language immersion schools. Students in these programs have attended immersion or bilingual elementary schools. The Spanish continuation offers four immersion classes (Social Studies, Science, Math, Language Arts) and the French continuation consists of two course offerings (Language Arts and Social Studies).
